Aprons Again

A couple more done! I was finally able to figure out how to get my rolled hem foot started on my machine, watch out!

3/4 Slip

I threw together this slip today.  I have this great black knit dress that I got at a thrift store last year, and after wearing it out and about all day I came home and my husband informed me that you can see right through it.  Needless to say I haven't worn it since, but I love to and really want to wear it to a party this weekend so since I have all this time on my hands I took some leftover lining that I had from a vest that I made and threw together this slip.

It may not be much to look at, but it does a great job of keeping the mystery alive. 

Aprons again...

Got a few more aprons done today three of these

and a few aprons that came out a little small, but I think they would be great for the kiddos.

Hopefully going to go back and try to fix my dress tomorrow more pics to come.

Of course...

So, despite my best efforts to put my new pattern altering skills into play I am apparently still to ambitious for my own good.  I was all excited to try and finish the shirt dress that I have been working on so I could wear it this weekend.  Unfortunately, while I was able to alter the pattern so the top fits and the bottom fits I failed to account for how the heck they were going to meet up since I am a smaller size on top and a bigger size on the bottom.  Damn my junk in the trunk!  So, I am once again stuck with my good friend the seam ripper ripping out the waistband and trying to figure out how to make this work.  No pictures today because it's just too tragic.  I think I will go back to the aprons and take some time to regroup before I attempt to fix the dress.

More Aprons!

I am having a blast cranking out these adorable aprons!  Now that I have a new much sturdier sewing table I can sew at full speed without my table bouncing, I love it!

This Saturday will my last day of work at Borders.  It is a very sad ending to a great three years, but I am hopeful that I will find a new job very soon and in the meantime I can focus on my sewing.  I am hoping to be able to spend some time working on the dress that I had started sometime next week.

Apron Maddness!

So, I am making some aprons for a co-worker of mine who has a little shop called A Chic Boutique in Largo.  Here are the first three I got done this weekend, I think they turned out pretty good.

Bodice Front

New Project: Simplicity 2403 Project Runway Shirt Dress

So this is the dress I finally started working on today.  I cut out the pattern pieces months ago and just haven't had the time to pull the trigger on it.  I will be making the shirt dress shown on the model on the right and this is the fabric.

I attended a sewing expo last month and came back with so much more knowledge so I am actually really glad I waited to start the dress.  Today I altered the pattern pieces, cut out all the fabric and got through about half of the markings.  It is taking me a little longer than usual with the marking because I learned how to do tailor tacks at the expo, but I was having a hard time remembering how to do them.  Now that I have them down the rest of the marking should go fairly quickly. 

Hello!

Decided to start a sewing blog mostly because I am about to be unemployed and will need something to pass the time in between applying for jobs.  I figure maybe this way I can better keep track of what sewing projects I am working on and post pictures of them here as I finish.    Hopefully someone out there will find it interesting and if not I guess it's a way to keep myself sane during this unstable time in my life.
